My father looked down his long nose at me as we rode in our limousine to Red Rose Academy. He had on a three piece blue suit and red tie. His black hair was impeccably combed and his steely gaze made my stomach tightened. I folded my hands tight in my lap and looked straight ahead. My blond hair was piled up high, and I had on the annoying long frilly white dress that was the uniform for Red Rose Academy. It was supposed to indicate that we women were pure and supposed to show off our assets in order to attract a mate.
Men still dominated vampire society, and they were still stuck in the twelfth century, where women were used to help me gain power and wealth. They hadn’t gotten the memo that men and women were equal, and women could make their own decisions.
“I expect you to be on your best behavior, Rose,” Father said. “I don’t want to get any reports from Red Rose Academy that you’ve been hanging out with the wrong kind of people.” His icy tone made me flinch.
I knew exactly what he meant. He didn’t want me to hang out with Valentin Dragan. But my heart was set on Valentin. He was all I ever thought about.
Unfortunately, Father had other plans for me.
