Quinn blinked and his eyes were normal. “Okay.”
“I can sense you are hurt and I don’t like it.” The man clenched his fist. “After your meeting come to my place and rest. Just rest. Let me take care of you.”
Quinn blinked at the stranger offering to take care of him. “I had a similar offer to rest.”
“I heard and you turned it down.” The man smiled looking way too pleased.
“Why should I accept yours? You are a stranger and I don’t know you. Wait…you were not in the hall when I got the offer how did you even hear it.”
“Because you want too. Your body is screaming to run but your mind can’t decide if it is to me or away,” the man smirked, “and yes, I am a stranger but you detective can take care of yourself so you don’t need to fear being alone with me…maybe. As for hearing the offer. I have good hearing.”
Quinn was torn. He was right. And Quinn wasn’t one to back away from anything. Yet this time his instincts were at odds with which way he should be going…away or to him.
“I’ll let you know after the meeting. Will you be around?”
“Good.” He smiled then went toward the door. “Just call my name and I will be there.”
The man walked through the open door.
“I don’t even know your name,” he whispered.
Ashton Wilde. His name seemed to reverberate in his head and through him. Quinn scowled. Now he was being fanciful. He rolled his shoulders and winced at the pain before he headed back to the meeting about the wedding. Outside the door he looked at the empty hall.
Where the hell did you come from Ashton Wilde? What do you want from me?
